Essential intelligence for your deployment to Uganda.
Uganda's permit is USD 700 vs Rwanda's USD 1,500. That's the honest answer. The trekking experience is comparable in both countries. Uganda involves a longer journey to reach the park, either a full day by road from Entebbe or a charter flight. Rwanda is simpler logistics from Kigali. Many travelers choose Uganda specifically to save the USD 800 and put it toward more nights in the bush.
Yes, and it's a strong combination. A typical itinerary is two to three days in Uganda for gorilla trekking, then a regional flight to Zanzibar for five to seven days on the beach. The contrast between dense mountain forest and the Indian Ocean is part of what makes the East Africa combination so compelling.
Six months ahead is a minimum for peak season (June to September, December to February). For popular gorilla families, permits can sell out a year in advance. If you have firm travel dates, book as soon as you decide. Last-minute permits occasionally appear but you can't plan around them.
