ルワンダは赤道のすぐ南にある、丘の多い小さな内陸国です。国土の大部分が標高1,000メートルを超えるため、一年を通じて穏やかな気候です。首都キガリは移動しやすく、2008年からはビニール袋が全国で禁止されています。西のコンゴ民主共和国との国境沿いにはキブ湖が広がります。
北西部のヴィルンガ山地にあるボルケーノ国立公園は、マウンテンゴリラとゴールデンモンキーのトレッキングで知られています。南西部のニュングェ国立公園は古い熱帯雨林で、チンパンジーが暮らし、樹冠の上を歩くつり橋があります。東部のアカゲラ国立公園はサバンナで、ライオンとサイが再導入されたことで、再びビッグファイブがそろいました。
ルワンダは短い旅に向いています。ボルケーノ国立公園はキガリから車で約2時間半のため、国内に2泊か3泊するだけでゴリラに会えます。許可証はウガンダより高額で、1日の発行数も限られています。
ルワンダには海がないため、組み合わせるビーチにはザンジバルが向いています。キガリからザンジバルへはその日のうちに到着できます。ルワンダはタンザニアやケニアより1時間遅い時間帯である点にご注意ください。

すべての国籍の旅行者が到着時にビザを取得するか、公式ポータル「Irembo」で事前にオンライン申請できます。アフリカ連合、英連邦、フランコフォニー加盟国の国民は30日間のビザが無料で、その他の多くの国籍はシングルエントリーで50米ドルです。東アフリカ観光ビザ（100米ドル）はルワンダ、ウガンダ、ケニアで90日間有効ですが、タンザニアでは使えません。パスポートは6か月以上の残存期間が必要です。ゴリラ・トレッキングの許可証はルワンダ開発庁（RDB）で別途予約します。ルワンダでは旅行保険の加入義務はありませんが、加入をおすすめします。2026年10月16日確認。

黄熱リスク国または流行中の国から到着する場合は、黄熱予防接種証明書が必須で、ワクチンは渡航の10日以上前に接種する必要があります。証明書がない場合は、入国時に自己負担で接種を受けます。ルワンダはタンザニアの一覧に含まれないため、ザンジバルへ向かうのに証明書は不要です。ただし、ケニアやウガンダなど一覧の国で12時間以上乗り継ぎをした場合は必要です。マラリアが存在しますが、キガリや標高の高い地域ではリスクが低めです。渡航外来で予防薬について相談してください。飲み水はボトル入りかろ過した水にしてください。ゴリラ・トレッキングには独自の健康ルールがあり、当日に風邪などの症状があると参加を断られることがあります。2026年10月16日確認。
